As the runtime writes more approved RuntimeCycle records, links more typed scientific objects, prepares more review-gated wet-lab handoffs, and assembles more reviewed collections, the infrastructure layer beneath those workflows accumulates load. That accumulation is the alignment surface — composed against the network's throughput, not against marketing cycles.
The conservatism is the shape of the alignment, not its absence. The runtime stays under Protean Labs' operator authority. The public coordination surface is where the ecosystem composes. That separation is what keeps the infrastructure positioning credible — and what makes the alignment durable as the network grows.
Scope discipline
$PRTN attaches to the public coordination surface — not to operator authority over the runtime, not to scientific outputs, not to wet-lab queues. No equity in Protean Labs. No governance rights over the runtime. No claim on distributions, royalties, or guaranteed returns. The scope discipline is what keeps the infrastructure positioning composable; the alignment lives in what the token is positioned with, not in what it claims against.

Each would attach above the public-safe state surface, beneath the runtime, and only after separate counsel, regulatory, scientific, and operational review.

Protean Labs retains the strategic option to evaluate ACE-style ecosystem-exchange structures — token warrants, equity-exchange mechanisms, SAFE-style instruments, and comparable counsel-reviewed coordination vehicles — as the infrastructure layer matures and the network composes against it. Any such structure would be a separately constituted vehicle with its own documentation, public-safe state boundary, and full legal, regulatory, jurisdictional, compliance, scientific, tax, and operational review. The optionality is retained at the protocol level; holders are not entitled to it, and nothing on this page commits Protean Labs to pursue it.

The public coordination surface exposes full sequences for intentionally published candidates and families, Protean Ledger records, event-derived lineage, lifecycle and disclosure state, reviewed collection membership, Digest output, and supplemental mirror artifacts. $PRTN attaches only to the public surface — and only at the infrastructure layer.
